The Quran and Nature: Discovering the Silent Verses in the Universe

The Quran and nature… When these two concepts are juxtaposed, a window is opened onto both the inner and outer worlds. The Quran speaks to us through the words of God, while nature reveals His silent yet most impressive verses. The majesty of the mountains, the coolness carried by the wind, the fertility of the earth, and the magnificence of the sky… All of them touch the heart of man as if to say, “Your Lord is here.”

The Quran repeatedly asks, “Will you not think?” “Will you not reason?” “Will you not take heed?” This call is, in fact, an invitation to observe nature. A delicate balance lies in the flight of a bird, mercy in the meeting of rain with the earth, and divine artistry in the blossoming of a flower. As one sees this order, one better grasps the harmonious rhythm of the Quranic verses with the universe.

While even modern science struggles to decipher the flawless order in nature today, the Quran pointed to the source of this order centuries ago. The cycle of water, the layers of the heavens, the alternation of night and day, the function of the winds… Each one is a living verse that speaks of God's power.

Looking at nature is, in fact, a kind of visual interpretation of the Quran. It is read in its lines, experienced in the open. Whenever we are bored, our hearts are constricted, we feel tired, even leaning against a tree and listening to the wind reminds us of the peaceful aspect of the Quran.

For the Quran is not just a book; it is life itself. Nature, however, is the constantly refreshing pages of this life.

Our Lord says:
“Indeed, in that are signs for people who reflect.”

Nature sends us a new message every day. The colors of the sky change, the earth revives, the wind brings a new story. But if one's heart is open, one finds their Lord in each of these messages.
