It may be suggested in conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, ligament injuries, joint tightness, and shoulder pain, including frozen shoulder. It can also provide heating to soft tissues to support healing and relive pain. 

Ultrasound scan typically takes around 45 minuts to complete, although in some cases it might take longer. At the start of the scan, a gel is applied to the skin to prevent the formation of air pockets. A handheld device, called a transducer, is then used to send sound waves to the body. The transducer is moved across the body and in turn receives returning echoes, which are converted into electrical signals. These signals are convereted into images which can be viewed on a screen.
