When sodium is being stripped from sodium silicate feed, the rate of removal affects both the final sodium-to-silica ratio in the product and the rate at which colloidal particles grow. Alarms are configured for conductivity deviation, pressure imbalance between compartments, and flow rate drop the three conditions most likely to indicate membrane fouling or a developing blockage.
